Patch-based local histograms and contour estimation for static foreground classification

چکیده
This paper presents an approach to classify static foreground blobs in surveillance scenarios. Possible application is the detection of abandoned and removed objects. In order to classify the blobs, we developed two novel features based on the assumption that the neighborhood of a removed object is fairly continuous. In other words, there is a continuity, in the input frame, ranging from inside the corresponding blob contour to its surrounding region. Conversely, it is usual to find a discontinuity, i.e., edges, surrounding an abandoned object. We combined the two features to provide a reliable classification. In the first feature, we use several local histograms as a measure of similarity instead of previous attempts that used a single one. In the second, we developed an innovative method to quantify the ratio of the blob contour that corresponds to actual edges in the input image. A representative set of experiments shows that the proposed approach can outperform other equivalent techniques published recently.

Textured Image Segmentation based on Local Spectral Histogram and Active Contour
In this paper, we propose a novel level set based active contour model to segment textured images. The proposed methos is based on the assumption that local histograms of filtering responses between foreground and background regions are statistically separable. In order to be able to handle texture non-uniformities, which often occur in real world images, we use rotation invariant filtering fea...
متن کاملEnhancement of Learning Based Image Matting Method with Different Background/Foreground Weights
The problem of accurate foreground estimation in images is called Image Matting. In image matting methods, a map is used as learning data, which is produced by those pixels that are definitely foreground, definitely background ,and unknown. This three-level pixel map is often referred to as a trimap, which is produced manually in alpha matte datasets. The true class of unknown pixels will be es...
متن کاملBackground-Foreground Segmentation Based on Dominant Motion Estimation and Static Segmentation
This paper addresses the problem of image segmentation using motion and luminance information. We use the dominant motion model to calculate both the background and foreground motion in a robust estimation framework and then combine it with the result of static segmentation using the watershed algorithm to segment the foreground from the background. In this paper, the previous pixelbased (or ov...
متن کاملReal Time Illumination Invariant Background Subtraction Using Local Kernel Histograms
Constant background hypothesis for background subtraction algorithms is often not applicable in real environments because of shadows, reflections, or small moving objects in the background: flickering screens in indoor scenes, or waving vegetation in outdoor ones. In both indoor and outdoor scenes, the use of color cues for background segmentation is limited by illumination variations when ligh...
متن کاملMRF-Based Background Initialisation for Improved Foreground Detection in Cluttered Surveillance Videos
Robust foreground object segmentation via background modelling is a difficult problem in cluttered environments, where obtaining a clear view of the background to model is almost impossible. In this paper, we propose a method capable of robustly estimating the background and detecting regions of interest in such environments. In particular, we propose to extend the background initialisation com...
